Introduction
Pursuant to section 87, subsection 3, § 90, subsection 2, § 95, subsection 1 and 3, and section 118, subsection 13, of the Traffic Act, cf. Executive Order No. 168 of 14 February 2023 is set after authorization in accordance with § 5, subsection 1, no. 3, in executive order no. 378 of 9 April 2023 on the Road Directorate's tasks and powers:
Chapter 1 General
§ 1.
This executive order contains provisions on the design and meaning of road markings.
Paragraph 2. In the following provisions, the normal appearance of the marking is shown.
Paragraph 3. On public roads, the information can be given in the most appropriate way depending on the conditions, when it only applies to pedestrians, or when the marking is set up on separate paths.
§ 2.
Regardless of markings, a vehicle used for road work may, with due caution, be driven as is necessary for the sake of the work.
Paragraph 2. For emergency driving and driving with defense and rescue vehicles, the rules laid down in this regard apply.
§ 3.
The Directorate of Roads can grant a municipal road authority an exemption from provisions laid down in this executive order, cf. however subsection 3.
Paragraph 2. The Ministry of Transport can notify the Road Directorate and Sund & Bælt Holding A/S with subsidiaries of a dispensation.
Paragraph 3. Dispensation from the provisions on E 47-52 in § 27 can be granted after negotiation with the Ministry of Transport.
Chapter 2 Traffic signs
§ 4.
There are the following main boards:
- 1) A: Warning boards.
- 2) B: Right-of-way signs.
- 3) C: Prohibition signs.
- 4) D: Notice boards.
- 5) E: Information boards.
§ 5.
Variable traffic signs must be composed of light sources or made up of prisms.
Paragraph 2. It is permitted to use the following main signs as variable traffic signs: A 20, A 22, A 39, A 95, A 99, C 11, C 51, C 52, C 53, C 54, C 55, C 56, E 16, E 91 and E 92.
§ 6.
Temporary traffic signs are made up of the current main sign, optionally supplemented with a sub-sign mounted on a yellow background plate with a black border.
§ 7.
Traffic signs are set up on the right side of the road in the direction of traffic.
§ 8.
Traffic signs normally apply to all traffic in the direction of traffic.
U. Underboards
§ 9.
The meaning of a traffic sign can be specified, limited or expanded by text, numbers or symbols on a rectangular sub-sign below the main sign.
Paragraph 2. Sub-boards for warning signs, right-of-way signs and prohibition signs have a white base. Sub-boards for notice boards and information boards have a blue bottom.
A. Warning signs
§ 10.
Warning signs are triangular with the point upwards. They have a red border and a white center field with a black symbol.
§ 11.
The meaning of warning signs can be specified, limited or expanded with sub-signs, cf. § 9.
§ 12.
Outside more densely built-up areas, warning boards are usually set up between 150 and 250 m before the danger point.
Paragraph 2. In more densely built-up areas, the boards can be set up at a shorter distance from the danger point without distance indication.
§ 13.
The following warning signs can be used: A 11, A 16, A 17, A 18, A 19, A 20, A 21, A 22, A 23, A 26, A 27, A 31, A 33, A 34, A 35, A 36, A 37, A 38, A 39, A 41,1, A 41,2, A 42.1, A 42.2, A 43.1‑3, A 44, A 46.1‑2, A 72, A 73, A 74.1‑2, A 75, A 91, A 92, A 95, A 96, A 97, A 99. B. Right-of-way signs
§ 14.
Right-of-way signs are erected immediately at the place where or from which the stated right-of-way rule applies.
§ 15.
The meaning of right-of-way signs can be clarified, restricted or expanded with sub-signs, cf. § 9.
§ 16.
The following right-of-way signs can be used: B 11, B 13, B 15, B 16, B 17, B 18, B 19.
C. Prohibition signs
§ 17.
Prohibition signs are circular with a red border and a black symbol.
§ 18.
Prohibition signs are usually set up immediately at the place where or from which the prohibition applies.
Paragraph 2. A ban applies until the next intersection.
Paragraph 3. The meaning of prohibition signs can be clarified, restricted or expanded with sub-signs, cf. § 9.
§ 19.
The following prohibition boards can be used: C 11,1‑2, C 12, C 19, C 21‑26, C 31‑36, C 41‑43, C 51‑56, C 59, C 61‑63, C 92.
D. Notice boards
§ 20.
Notice boards are circular with a blue base and a white symbol.
§ 21.
Injunction boards are set up immediately at the place where or from which the injunction applies.
§ 22.
The meaning of notice boards can be clarified, restricted or expanded with sub-boards, cf. § 9.
§ 23.
The following notice boards can be used: D 11, D 12, D 15, D 16, D 21‑23, D 26‑27, D 55‑56.
E. Information boards and area boards
§ 24.
Information boards are rectangular with a blue base and a white symbol or white text.
§ 25.
Information boards are set up near the place or at the beginning of the stretch of road to which the content of the board relates.
§ 26.
The meaning of information boards can be clarified, restricted or expanded with sub-boards, cf. § 9.
§ 27.
The following information boards can be used: E 11, E 15‑19, E 21‑26, E 30‑35, E 37, E 39‑41, E 42‑45, E 47‑56, E 68‑70, E 80, E 90‑93.
Chapter 3 Direction boards and tourist information boards
§ 28.
On the general road network outside motorways: F (Signposts), G (Orientation boards), H (Distance and location boards), L (Route numbers), M (Service boards) are used.
§ 29.
On motorways, the following are used: H, I (Exit signs), J (Carriageway and orientation signs), K (Confirmation and distance signs), L, M.
Chapter 4 Edge and background marking, etc.
§ 47.
The following types are used:
- 1) N: Edge marking.
- 2) O: Background marking.
- 3) P: Traffic light.
Chapter 5 Marking on the carriageway, etc.
§ 53.
The following types are used:
- 1) Q: Length marking.
- 2) R: Arrow marking.
- 3) S: Cross marking.
- 4) T: Marking for stopping and parking.
- 5) V: Text and symbols on the roadway, etc.
Q. Length marking
§ 55. (Contains both changes from BEK 1501)
The following length markings are used on the carriageway:
Q 41 Trolley line. Narrow dotted line with short stroke and long space. Indicates separation between lanes.
Q 42 Notification line. Narrow dotted line with long stroke and short space. Used as a warning for the barrier line.
Q 44 Barrier line. Narrow solid line. Must not be exceeded or crossed by driving. This also applies when turning left, from a secondary road and onto a primary road, when driving along long trains [Changed from "modular train" cf. BEK 1501], which has explicit permission for the maneuver when the road geometry dictates it.
Q 45 Barrier surface. Shaded or completely white area on the carriageway, on which driving, stopping or parking may not be done.
Q 46 Unbroken border. The line limits the part of the carriageway to be used by motor vehicles and large mopeds. Special transport and long trains [Changed from "modular vehicle train" cf. BEK 1501], which has approval for driving on roads, may exceed the edge line when driving on loop ramps or when turning, if the path delimited by the edge line is not a turning lane, bus lane or bicycle lane.
Q 47 Dotted border. Used instead of Q 46 to indicate that crossing the line is permitted.
R. Arrow marking
§ 57.
R 11 Carriageway arrows, R 13 Double carriageway arrows, R 14 Carriageway arrows with prohibition of turning, R 15 Arrows for changing lanes.
S. Cross marking
§ 59.
S 11 Wayline, S 13 Stop line, S 16 End of turning lane, S 17 Pedestrian lane, S 18 Rumble strips, S 20 Motorized running Christmas in a marked scooter box, S 21 Cycle lane, S 22 Cycle box, S 32 Bump.
T. Marking for stopping and parking
§ 60.
T 33 Parking stall, T 61 Prohibition of stopping (yellow solid line), T 62 Prohibition of parking (yellow dotted line), T 63 Marking of cessation.

Chapter 6 Signaling system
§ 62.
Signaling systems are used for: X (Traffic signals), Y (Carriageway signals), Z (Blinking signals).
§ 65.
Light signals can show red, red and yellow, green or yellow light.
Paragraph 2. Red light means stop.
Paragraph 4. Green light means go.
Paragraph 5. Yellow light means stop.
Chapter 7 Entry into force
§ 71.
The executive order enters into force on 15 May 2023.
Paragraph 2. Executive order no. 2511 of 9 December 2021 on road markings is repealed.
Paragraph 3. Until 31 December 2029, the E 34 can be used with the appearance that appears from executive order no. 802 of 4 July 2012.
